Care/help at home.

         Caring for older people at home can be a responsibility and quite challenging. The carer may find that he/she needs support. Get advice and support from Age Concern Tanzania (ACT)

Care homes.

       It can sometimes be challenging to meet the costs of an older person's needs at home. Age Concern Tanzania is hoping to overcome this challenge. Such an older person is eligible to get care and support from the Local Government..

Safety and security.

    Criminals trick their
way into older people's homes to steal money and other
valuables. Help to protect older people. Here are some tips on
how to stay safe: 
  • Check gas safety.
  • Check fire safety.
  • Prepare for stormy and cold weather.
  • Use alarms.

Condition & illness.

     Older people should eat meals that have all the vitamins and minerals i.e. a balanced diet. A balanced diet is good for older people because it improves immunity. Be in touch with the doctor.

Health services.

     Sorting out teeth problems is very important. There are many ways you can get help when you’re not well. See the local doctor or visit a Hospital with a health insurance scheme.

Eating habits.

    Eating the right food should be easy. Let us look after our hearts by taking food that improves our immunity.

  • Older people should take food that lowers cholesterol levels in the blood. 
Keeping fit.

     Older people are urged to do simple exercises in order to keep fit.

Relationships with family.

   As you get older you may begin to lose lifelong friends and have other relationship challenges to contend with. At this stage we need compromise and conciliation.


Further training & Education.

      The Government runs a number of employment schemes intended to help people improve their job prospects and find work. This is also for older people. You are never too old to learn. Retirement offers a great opportunity to improve your skills. Do something you’re interested in and meet new people.

Rights and discrimination

     Discrimination law protects older people when they are working. Many older people are working until after sixty   (60)years. Some, out of choice and others for financial reasons. Older people must know their employment rights.
